Planning your next exotic getaway? Don’t forget to pack #beautyfoods for the plane! These tasty treats will keep you satisfied without the bloat that comes from in-flight snacks. Your skin will thank you, too: Almonds contain a combination of essential fatty acids, so important in maintaining healthy, supple skin. They also contain antioxidants, vitamin E, easily digested protein, calcium, and magnesium. Magnesium helps to counter the effects of stress, which can contribute to premature aging and aggravate acne.
The tangy, smoked flavor of these #beautyfood bites come from healthy sources, unlike most packaged snacks. The subtle sweetness comes from raw coconut nectar, a low-glycemic, mineral-rich source. Zesty lime provides vitamin C, giving your immune system a nice boost while keeping skin glowing. Sesame seeds are loaded with zinc, which produces collagen. Tamari is a fermented, wheat-free version of soy sauce which contains much less sodium than the commonly used variety. It also contains vitamin B3 (niacin), manganese, mood-enhancing tryptophan, and antioxidants.
Yield: 4 servings
Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
1 cup raw unsalted almonds vitamin | vitamin E for wrinkle fighting
1 tablespoon tamari | cell-building + firming
1 tablespoon raw coconut nectar | beauty minerals
½ lime, zested + juiced | vitamin C for anti-aging
1 tablespoon sesame seeds | zinc for collagen production
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- Mix together tamari, lime zest, ½ lime juice and coconut nectar. Combine well.
- Add in the almonds, and mix to coat thoroughly.
- Spread an even layer on a baking sheet, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and bake until deep golden brown (approx. 15 minutes.)
- Remove from oven and cool completely before serving. Store in an airtight container.
The tamari will make the almonds appear darker, so keep a close eye on them to ensure they don’t over-cook. Bon appétit, beauties!
